| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording The Last Prophet functions as an excellent, easy-on-the-ears introduction to the great Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his party. Featuring rarer selections of the ensemble's extensive repertoire and recorded without reverb effect, the CD meshes the party's amazing vocal art into songs that contain all the fervor that is the nature of qawwali while still retaining a rhythmic, melodious sound familiar to Westerners. "Maki Madni" is a luxurious, two-tempoed tune growing into a wonderful, exploding chorus in praise of Muhammad; "Gunj-E-Shakar" is special in its portentous, urgent cadence. While Nusrat's vocal expertise isn't as incredibly full and wide-ranged as in earlier recordings, this CD is still the better pick for those in need of a Nusrat introduction that's lighter in intensity than the wildest, most intense Nusrat and party. --Karen Karleski

Inspirational February 26, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I own many of this great man's albums, but this is without a doubt one of his most brilliant and certainly his most inspirational cd.The music on it is sincere and one could listen to it for hours and hours. It is very effective on long distance journeys and at times can be very relaxing.Maki Madni and Sochan Dongian are inspirational songs and there is a deeper meaning to both these tracks. However, most of you will probably just enjoy listening to this mans inspirational voice and the excellent beat to most of these songs on this album.I am certain you will enjoy it.
This album is astounding! March 14, 2000 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
It made me cry. I had never heard of this kind of music before. An experience worth having.
A Devotional Selection July 4, 2000 Zahra Jamshed (NJ, US) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is true qawwali selection. I will strongly recommend the readers to look into it. It has the devotional element to the nth degree and one becomes very emotional listening to it. I was very touched by the first two Qawwalis. They have a strong emotional and religious bent in them and one gets carried away while concentrating on the verses. The last two are equally worth listening. The 3rd one talks about the Sufi Baba Farid Gunj-ae-Shukar. And has a strong tinge of a qawwali recited on Urs of the Sufi Buzurgs. The last one has more of a romantic influence. In short, a very nice blend and a keep!
Simply inspiring May 28, 2004 Atif (Boxtel, The Netherlands) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is one of those albums you cant stop hearing. Nusrat was actually not human! His voice had a mystic power thas runs through your mind. Ganj-e-shakar is a song to play loud and make the whole neighborhood exstatic. This is real music! and inspiring. Nusrat was ,is ,and will forever stay the best!
