A Touching Look At Death... And Life June 5, 2006 Daniel McKinnon (Tewksbury, MA USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
'tuesdays with Morrie' is a short, simple book that proves a work doesn't need to be long or bloated to touch the soul or sell. Renowned sportswriter Mitch Albom reconnects with his professor from college after hearing the sad news that his beloved teacher is dying from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). What originally was supposed to be a visit inexplicably turned into the non-fiction book that never was meant to be, as Morrie decided that with his final time on this earth he had one more class to teach. As Morrie's health deteriorates, it doesn't stop him from sharing what he had learned in his life, wanting to help others, and reconnect with the individual that he considered to be like a son to him. There's no genre of reader that this applies to because this book applies to everyone. It's a short, quick read, and it will leave you thinking about how to enjoy life better and why family and friends are so vital. From someone who is used to covering baseball and sports comes a heart-warming tale that ensures that Morrie's legacy will live on much longer than his physical time on this planet. ***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
On Living and Loving Tuesday's With Morrie December 16, 2006 Carol Ann Nordhagen 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I could not put this book down once I started reading it. This touching story of life and loving can teach us all a thing or two which could profoundly change our lives. I hope I have the courage at the ending of my life to live it out as Morrie Schwartz did. Mitch Albom did a wonderful work of portraying the end days of this humble man. I give this book a 5 star rating due to it's touuching me in my heart.
Touched My Heart and Soul March 27, 2008 S. Lee (Mount Prospect, IL USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Tuesdays with Morrie is a "final thesis" between a young man and his old, beloved college professor who is diagnosed with a deadly, unforgiving illness called ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This book made Morrie's death much more valuable by making it a life lesson for people. People fear death and let it take over them instead of preparing for it and cherishing the moments they have to live. Morrie is only human, and he must have had his fears as well, but Morrie was strong, and he used his death to teach one more class, to share the experience to the public and give others the message of life and death. Morrie died painfully, but he didn't die lonely. He was a great teacher, husband, father, and friend. He had many loved ones who watched over him. He didn't die without meaning either. He left the world a better place. After reading this book, I was deeply moved, and I've thought a lot about life and death. I'm still young and I don't really know much about the two broad subjects. After reading the book twice, I truly believe this book is the answer to life. Life is a long, tiring trip and death is like your last stop to home sweet home and knowing that you've been there before. No matter how busy or how much your life is filled with earthly activities, this book reminds us of the simple gifts we have in life and to cherish the loved ones. After I finished the book, I've been able to appreciate the little things in life, such as the color of leaves, the sounds of birds chirping, the laughter of loved ones, and the simple daily activities that I am able to do. This is the type of book that can be read over and over and you'll still find more valuable hidden meanings and lessons in the text. It is beautifully written and simple, yet contains much complex lessons. This book touches your heart and soul and gets your mind thinking about the values of life. This is a book that never leaves your soul after you read it. Trust me on that. **I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT**
Wonderful October 25, 2007 C. Owens (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
'Tuedays with Morrie' was a wonderful read. I laughed and cried with Mitch and Morrie. I have known a young person who died from ALS when she was 45, My mother and I used to visit her on Sundays. Morries' Story is an inspirational one and makes you appreciate the simple things in life.
WHAT OLD FOLKS KNOW THAT WE DO NOT December 11, 2007 Harriette Schwartz, HJSWritergal (Tarzana, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Lost Pallies: The Afterlife has found it's voice and now it won't stop talking! What I loved most about this book is the quality and quantity of knowledge shared by an old dying man, and its effects on the younger one. You cannot put this put down until you are finished and at the back cover.
