Garry Sobers is a cricketing legend; his feats with the bat, ball, or in the field are remarkable. In this revealing and honest autobiography, Sobers talks about his upbringing and the tragic accident that inspired him throughout his career. He explains how he helped the West Indies to become the most feared cricketing nation in the world, setting them on a course of success that would run for another 20 years. With authority that comes form his unique status in the game, he assesses modern cricket, with its allegations of corruption, and gives his verdict on how the sport can progress in the 21st century.

A good autobiography. Could have been better!!! April 5, 2006 Mr. S. Ghosh (Oxford, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read the paperback version of "Gary Sobers: My Autobiography" by Sir Sobers a few weeks ago and I considered it a very good read indeed. Though it lacks: 1. The touch of excitement and mention of controversial issues as in Ian Botham's autobiography and, 2. The clear cut language and strong element of attack mixed with honesty in Imran Khan's first autobiography (a copy of the 1983 edition which I happen to possess); "Gary Sobers: My Autobiography" by Gary Sobers is indeed a very good read. A very nice set of pictures is included with a lot for the Lara fans as well since Sobers dedicates one whole chapter on Lara exclusively. Personally, I rate it the 4th best autobiography I've ever read with the list as: 1. "Imran: The Autobiography of Imran Khan" by Imran Khan & Patrick Murphy, Pelham Books, 1983, First Edition --> excellent style and terrific criticisms.... a fearless book from a fearless fighter. Must read for all. 2. "Botham: My Autobiography" by Ian Botham & Peter Hayter. Another superb book. 3. "One Who Will: The Search for Steve Waugh" by Jack Egan, NOT an autobiography, but a very nicely compiled biography anyway. 4. "Gary Sobers: My Autobiography" by Gary Sobers. I personally have never seen Sobers play since I wasn't born at that time when he was at his impeccable zenith, but my all time favorites being Imran and Botham; I consider them as the all-time best all-rounders in cricket history.
