Product Description The DietMinder is a deluxe food diary with plenty of room to record quantities and food counts (calories, fat, carbs, protein, etc.) of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. A special area for daily totals makes it easy to see at a glance how you are doing. Each "day" consists of two pages with space for exercise details, too. There are other helpful sections in the book such as the Favorite Foods listing which provides food counts on over 100 common foods and has space to add your own favorite food information. The Goals section of the DietMinder is also important. Here you can list your starting statistics, state your goals, and even paste a "before" picture. This is a great way to stay motivated! The DietMinder can be used with virtually any food or fitness program. It has been proven that keeping a food journal helps people focus and stay more committed to improving their eating habits. It really works!

The Most Important Dieting Tool Out There May 30, 2001 144 out of 345 found this review helpful
I became aware of the importance of recording what I eat while partaking in a "Rapid Results" program at my local gym (with a personal trainer). I was given a small pocket-sized food log, in which I recorded what I ate and when. This really forced me to take a look at my eating habits, and change them for the better. However, with the small food log I was using, I couldn't record other useful information, such as fat grams, protein, carbs and fiber. So after I filled up that food log, I purchased the Diet Minder's Food and Fitness Journal. This book contains everything you would want in a food journal and more. First, there are sections in the beginning in which you describe your current physical condition and your goals (there are even places for you to put "before" and "after" pics. Then, on the pages where you record your daily records, there are sections to record calories consumed (as well as fat, carbs, protein and fiber), water consumed, snacks consumed, Vitamins/supplements/meds, physical activity, calories burned during physical activity, weight, and any notes you wish to add. The Diet Minder's Food and Fitness Journal is perfect for anyone who wants to keep track of what they eat (or how much they exercise), especially if your on a "special" diet where you have to have a certain fat/protein/carbohydrate ratio. It is small enough to take anywhere, but large enough to comfortably record necessary information. From personal experience I believe that recording food intake and exercise is extremely important when it comes to health and weight loss(of course there are also studies that prove this to be true!). Doing so motivates you to stay with your plan, and try harder to reach your goals. It also gives you a dose of reality when you have to record that piece of cake you had after dinner that just tacked on an extra 350 calories! I highly recommend this journal to anyone who wants to lose weight and improve his or her health.
There and Not Back Again: My Journey From Boxy to Foxy May 25, 2004 kjenfan (United States) 88 out of 103 found this review helpful
I'm not sure at what juncture I went from "Foxy" to "Boxy" but any delusions I might have had to the contrary were shattered when my teenage son quietly took me aside and whispered, "You're not wearing THAT, are you?"..."Oh...doesn't look good, huh?" "No, it doesn't." "I'm not that overweight!... Am I?" Thus I started on the harrowing, fraught with temptations, Road to Recovery. Unfortunately, the Road was littered with diet books, diet plans, a lot of "I'll start Monday(s)" and a few too many candy bars. My 25 extra pounds wanted to stick to me like a bad hairstyle on a special day. Finally, I realized that the only time I had any success in sticking to a diet was when I wrote down what I ate. But the 79 cent notebooks I used to record my daily food consumption always seemed to get lost after a few weeks and I would go back to my old eating habits. Enter the DietMinder. Realizing that if I wanted to be healthy and lose weight I decided I needed to take more stringent measures. But I truly believe that "diets" don't work and the only sensible thing to do was to be sensible about how much and what, I ate. So after reading some of the other reviews here, I decided to order my own DietMinder. To make a long story short, IT WORKS! Here, at last, is a journal that gives you a permanent place to record what you eat, how much, calories, etc. There is a small, but certainly adequate, area in which to record what vitamins/supplements you take, the amount of exercise you do, etc. Without having to be fanatical, the journal offers a lot in the way of flexibility. You don't HAVE to write down how many grams of fat you eat or how many carbohydrates, but you CAN if you WANT to. You can record you blood pressure, your cholesterol, your measurements, etc., and there is a small "Favorite Food Facts" list in the back. As of today, I am into my third DietMinder and it has been exactly six months since I started recorded what I eat. No special diets, just a complete awareness of what I am eating. The journal is just enough a reminder that I don't stray from writing down what I eat and gives you a psychological edge by making you aware whether you eating habits are healthy or not. [We all know that without some self-discipline that piece of cake you eat gives you an automatic excuse to eat everything because, after all, now you've blown everything]. The result is that, seemingly effortlessly, I've lost 21 pounds and can easily fit into Size 10 blue jeans (with the button, not the elastic waist)! And to keep me honest, well, I anticipate buying many more DietMinders. As they say, try it, you'll like it.
DietMinder Hits the Spot January 22, 2000 Ck (Arizona) 50 out of 71 found this review helpful
I just received my 1st copy of Dietminder and I absolutely love it. This is just what I have been looking for. Six months ago I typed up this same format on my home computer, and placed all my paper in an 8 by 11 notebook, but I became frustrated with that b/c it was to big and bulkly. Ever since then I started looking around for a book similar to my home version, but small enough that I can carry it in my purse & bingo I found it.Dietminder has everything you will need to help you keep track of your weight-loss process. You can make note of any nutritional and/or dietary supplements you take daily as well as keep track of your calories, sodium, fiber & fat grams etc. It also provides you with a place to record your goals, present weight, physcial activity performance & your before & after photos. I love it and would definetly get it again, but keep in mind if your not the type of person who is detail oriented when it come to your weight loss process then this journal might not be for you.
I LOVE this food & fitness journal! March 12, 2001 S. Birch (Corona, CA USA) 49 out of 71 found this review helpful
I recently ordered the DietMinder journal, based in part on the good reviews here on Amazon.com, and I am truly impressed with it. I've read in many different sources (most recently, in Kirschenbaum's "Nine Truths about Weight Loss") that writing down your food and exercise greatly improves your chances for success. This journal is a great place to do just that, on a daily basis. What I like most about this journal is that it can be easily adapted and used for whatever plan you choose, from counting calories, fat grams, and/or fiber to making incremental changes in your eating habits (the latter is my approach). The authors don't have a program or agenda to push, which is a refreshing change from most health/diet books. I'm currently reading another new book entitled "The Power" by Sue Ellin Browder, who happens to go to my church. There's a section of her book that is aptly titled, "YOUR WEIGHT, YOUR WAY". That's how I think of this journal. I'm using it as a valuable tool to help me make healthy changes in my eating habits in the way that works best for me. A journal format works much better for me than miscellaneous pieces of paper which can get lost, and which don't show progress over time. With this DietMinder, I'm now on track and excited about the future, as I continue to take steps in the direction of a healthier life!
A must for anyone embarking on a lifestyle change. March 26, 2000 43 out of 54 found this review helpful
I've always hated the idea of writing down my food intake and counting calories but this journal actually makes it a pleasure. Since I have gotten this book I am able to track every little thing which has been really great. Since starting this journal I have lost over 30lbs.One aspect it provides is an incentive when I hit a plateau. Seeing how long it takes my body to acclimate to a lower weight makes getting over those plateaus just a bit easier. By tracking my progress in this much detail I can see where problems spring up and deal with them before they sabotage me. Another plus that this journal has that I have not found in others is a space for fiber intake. As this is a very important part of my lifestyle change it has been a godsend. While I wouldn't attribute my weight loss to keeping this journal, (that comes mostly from eating right and exercising) I will give credit to the designers for making it easy to use and a wonderful helper on my way to a healthier life. I will never be without one.
