Nice for learning vocabulary May 28, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Nice picture dictionary arranged in themes. Meant for Creole speakers learning English, but very helpful for people like me who speak English and are learning Creole. Would be even nicer if the exercises at the bottom of the pages also had the Creole translation as the rest of the items do.
Excellent tool for teaching English or just communicating March 8, 2007 Alecia D. O'Byrne (Kingman, KS United States) In the process of adopting 4 Haitian children who know little or no English I have been concerned about communicating with them on the most basic level. I also will be homeschooling them and know that there are areas not covered in a regular English/Creole dictionary. When I purchased this dictionary I had hope that it would be helpful. Little did I know how helpful. This dictionary which has pictures to help understand the concept is going to be an excellent tool for the children as well as for me. I use it now to translate letters to and from the children. It is not a program for teaching English but it will be useful everyday to communicate to the children what I need for them to do and to understand them as well.
The Best! May 13, 2007 Stacey A. Marchak (Key West, FL USA) All of the Oxford Picture Dictionaries are amazing! I use them with all of my students who come from many foreign countries. This book is the best thing for vocabulary. You can use the book to teach English or Creole by working with a particular topic or the students can easily use the book to learn practical vocabulary for daily interactions. I highly recommend this book!!!!!
Love it October 31, 2007 Thomas P. Morris Jr. Si ou vle pale kreyol, ou bezwen achte liv sa a. This is a great dictionary for those wanting to know the Haitian Creole translation to English words. I had this dictionary before and ended up giving it to a good Haitian friend trying to learn English and missed it so bad I bought myself another.
The Oxford Picture Dictionary English-Haitian Creole January 21, 2008 M. Henry (Georgia) Very helpful. I am a visual learner so I really enjoyed having the visual cues to help me practice and remember. I recommend this book as an essential part of the learning package for anyone who wants to learn Creole. However, this book does not help with grammer or prononucation. However, great book for laying the foundation.
