Disavowing the contents of "Stars over Haiti" August 31, 2003 Valiere (White PLains, NY) I am Valiere Alcena, M.D., F.A.C.P., the brother of Sauveur Alcenat, co-author of "Stars over Haiti".I am writing to disavow the contents of this book, which purports to be biographical, to the extend that it claims to discribe me, my parents, my children, or any events that have occured and are occuring in my life. I would like to assure readers that any statements made in the book that claim to be about me, my children, my parents, or any events in my life or thier lives are entirely false and are figments of my frother's vivid imagination. They constitute complete fabrications. In addition, photographs of me and my children were placed in the book without my permission or the permission of any of my children. Anyone who bothers to waste his or her worthwile time to read this awful, fictitious, and rediculous book should read it as the fiction that it is, an awful and liabelous fiction at that.
A work of almost pure fiction August 30, 2003 I have spoken with a brother of the co-author of this book and he has assured me that the book is one of almost pure fiction insofar as it describes him, his parents, his children or any of the events in their lives. The book should therefore be read as one of fiction and nothing else.
Disavowing the contents of "Stars over Haiti" September 7, 2003 Valiere (White PLains, NY) Please change the word "frother's" with the correct word "brother's" at the bottom of the second paragraph in my review from August 30, 2003. Thank you.
Not that bad of a read January 27, 2004 At first I thought, who is this guy to write this book? Who cares? Then I figured, as I read along, that this was his life story (STORY)according to him. The way he remembered it. Personally I thought that he should of have used alias' so that people would read it for what it was, a story. It isn't like he had anyone in the family supporting him or backing the story as true. I find it unfortunate that his brother never supported him in his endeavor. Had his brother, bothered to take the time to review the manuscript prior to the publishing, maybe it would never have gotten published. I realize that the man is busy, and has no time for anyone, including his brother. He allegedly told S.A. that he was the only one in the family that needed to write books. "Why do you have to write a book?" allegedly. I'm beginning to actually wonder if Valiere has taken the time to actually read the book, because if so, I have some questions... What do you have to hide? What is the big family secret? What are you ashamed of? What is the big f-----g deal?
Stars Over Haiti February 5, 2005 CR (New York City) This reads as a good story about one man who managed to help his family after their parents died and who went on to have some success in Haiti. When the political climate changed, he had to get away and made a new life for himself in New York City. The positive message in this book is that people can have a better life when they try hard, despite the country where they live and the hardships. The author has as many as 75 people who will back him up that his story is true. Let's have more good stories like this from people in Haiti.
