Excellent peice of work August 14, 2008 G. Chandhoke (Miami FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was on a business trip to India a few months back when one of my colleague gifted me a copy of this book. This book contains everything that you want to know about Oracle Applications in a very simple and easy languague. Apart from that this book also covers everything about Release 12 . The best thing I liked about this book is it contains a practical approach . All the Installation/Upgradations are shown with examples and screen shot and that really helps in understanding the complex process in simple way. It also has all the unix sessions and the prompts that really helps in understainding . One more good thing about this book is this book discusses everything parallely for 11i and R12 , like what was the architecture in 11i and what is the architure in R12 , how was the file system in 11i and how is the file system in R12. So one gets an indepth knowledge of 11i as well as R12. I even saw the review of this book in "Oracle Magazine" in March/April edition but was not able to find this book in US. Now since the book is released I am definitely going to recommended it to all my fellow DBA's . I must say this is a awesome peice of work specially where the author has covered everything about 11i and R12 in a nice way.
A must in every Apps DBA's and beginner's bookshelf August 16, 2008 J. Sampathkumar (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Being an Applications DBA myself, I wondered why there is a lack of book in this field. I was delighted to find Mc-Graw Hill to fill this gap. The author has done a good job of elucidating the Oracle technology documentation into a simple easy to understand flow in this book. * This is very good for someone who wants to get into Apps DBA field. It will be a good reference book also for people already in Apps DBA field. * It covers from basics of Oracle ERP field to detail technical knowledge on the standard day to day Apps DBA tasks. * One of the highlights of the book is the screen-shot installations and upgrade of the Oracle Applications. This is very handy and useful feature for any Apps DBA. * Another interesting feature is coverage of two diverse versions of Oracle Apps - R11 and R12. This is a first in technology books, with people having to buy a book for every version these days. It really saves some money and some trees. Kudos to Mr. Joyjeet Banerjee on bringing such a good book in the sparsely populated AppsDBA tech-book arena.

A must-have handbook for an Oracle Applications DBA August 18, 2008 Sachin S. Shetty 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Oracle Applications despite of being a suite of technology stack from different generations is still the least understood technology stack. This book essentially fills the void in this space and propels you in to the world of Oracle applications for both beginners and experts. The books details both day to day procedures of an Oracle Applications DBA and advanced topics. The book is also very much current and covers the latest aspects of Oracle Applications Release 12. Highly recommended for somebody who wants to understand Oracle applications internals and prefers scientific solutions rather than survive on lame "I am feeling lucky" metalink searches
