This book is a collection of letters he wrote to his parishioners providing details of his travels to the Holy Land. It is interesting on several fronts: he generally places each site visited into its Biblical context; he describes life in that part of the world 100 years ago; he offers insight as to the views held by an educated Western Christian of his day on the significance of the area and what its future may hold. His superior use of the English language and his good humor make it a very satisfying read, and it is illustrated by pictures he took.
