This work discusses labour politics during the 1917 Revolution. It examines a critical period in the evolution of the Russian labour movement - from the February Revolution to mid-summer of 1918 - during which the movement experienced a profound transformation, losing its pluralistic character, and becoming essentially a centralized one-party institution. In interpreting labour politics, this study focuses on labour functionaries as a distinct group within the labour movement, and traces the impact of their institutional agendas and group interests on labour politics. This turns out to have been a key issue in the shaping of the Revolution.
